What Quilting Material You Need by Jenny Grant
If you’re about to start quilting, before you can even start, you will need to get some materials. One of the most important materials you will need is a book or pattern to follow. This way you will know exactly how much fabric you need to buy, and you will know what steps to follow to make sure you make the quilt you are trying to make!
Another material you definitely need is fabric. You will need to buy enough 100% cotton fabrics in different colors and patterns so that you can make the entire quilt! Of course this is the most important part out of all of your supplies, since this is what your quilt will be made out of.
You will also need something in order to be able to cut your fabrics. You can use either a pair of scissors or a rotary cutter. A rotary cutter can be easier to use, since you can just roll it over a few layers of fabric at a time.
Another important supply you will need is a ruler. You want to make sure that each piece of fabric you cut is exactly the size you want it to be, otherwise the pieces of fabric won’t go together right, and your quilt won’t look right.
An iron is a very important tool for quilting as well. First you need to iron your fabrics before using them, and then once you sew pieces together, you will need to iron them open. It’s something that most people have already, and don’t really consider a quilting tool, but you would not be able to make beautiful quilts without it!
There are also some other tools that you might want to buy to make it easier for you, but are not always necessary. If you have pins or safety pins you can use the to piece together fabrics you are going to sew.
As you can see, there aren’t that many tools that you need in order to make your very own quilt. If you have these quilting materials, you will have everything you need to make a beautiful quilt!
